“When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something’s suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful.” – Barbara Bloom

This ceramic art form is called Kintsugi (or Kinsokuroi). It is a Japanese art of repairing broken objects and pottery with a special lacquer or powdered gold, silver, or platinum. The philosophy of this method is to embrace the history of the object as opposed to hiding it’s flaws.
