When mixing and matching keep in mind: Color, Size and Texture.
Prints work well when you work them in different scales – small, medium and large. When using lots of bright colors it is elegant to use a neutral to anchor the business and create continuity. Notice in the above illustration featured amongst the complex colors are neutrals like black, beige and grey.
Assignment: Gather fabric swatches or digital files of fabric swatches and make interesting combinations with the swatches. You can try looking at prints from all different sources including wallpaper designs and new and old graphics. Mix vintage with modern, stripes with dots, scale / size and experiment!
